RUSSELLVILLE, Ala. — An EMT is in jail after police said he took medication from patients in his care.
WAFF reported that EMT Matthew Britton, 31, with the Pleasant Bay Ambulance Services, has been placed on leave since the incident and that the Alabama EMS Board has suspended his license pending hte outcome of the investigation.
His bond has been set at $6,000. He is accused from taking medication from patients on two separate occasions.
Police said in the first incident Britton took 16 Xanax pills; on the second, police said he took 23 Hydrocodone pills, according to the report.
Since Britton’s arrest, all employees have been drug tested and the company has instituted a new policy that no patient’s medications will be taken with them by EMTs during transfer to the hospital, according to the report. EMTs will instead make a list of the medications and hand it to hospital staff.
