Fake Turkish ambulance smuggles 13 tons of cigarettes

The officers became suspicious when the ambulance activated its sirens as it approached a control point

OSMANIYE, Turkey — Officers arrested two smugglers who were transporting 27,500 packs of cigarettes on a fake ambulance.

Officers from the Organized Crime Department became suspicious when the ambulance activated its sirens approaching the control point, the Daily Sabah reported.

When the officers opened the vehicle’s doors, they found tens of thousands cigarettes packs instead of a patient.

The smugglers wore aprons similar to those Turkish health workers wear, used fake license plates and modified the van to make it look like an ambulance.
