MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin legislators introduced a bill that would standardize and establish regulations for community paramedicine.
The bill would establish a set of statewide standards for EMS providers to follow while administering care.
EMS providers would be able to give non-emergency care to patients at home under the medical direction of a physician. The bill would include preventative care and chronic disease management under Community Emergency Medical Services, reported WXOW.
“This legislation standardizes the CEMS program statewide, but allows individual communities to employ the program to meet their specific needs,” representative Katrina Shankland said. “From rural to urban, and suburban areas this bill will serve all communities in Wisconsin in identifying, addressing and tackling their specific health care needs.”
Legislators also said the bill would ease medical shortages in rural areas.
