EMS Hero of the Week: Medic starts fund to save family’s Christmas

After getting his own financial problems in order, he’s paying it forward by raising more than $1,000 so far for a struggling family

There are a lot of ways EMS can care for someone, and it doesn’t always come down to treating a patient.

North Carolina paramedic Hunter Crowder demonstrated just that by raising enough money to save Christmas for a family struggling financially.

He got the idea after his grandparents give him and his fiancé money to catch up on overdue bills.

“What my grandparents did for us was just enough to get us back on our feet where we’re not living paycheck to paycheck again,” Crowder said.

He wanted to pay it forward, and set up a gofundme account for a family that wishes to remain anonymous.

“They are a family of six with four children, all but one in grade school,” he wrote on the donation page. “…They just lost their house and are now having to rent. She has returned all Christmas gifts just to pay rent.”

So far the fund has raised more than $1,000 for the family.

And that is what we call an EMS Hero of the Week.
