KEY LARGO, Fla. — A firefighter-EMT is on the road to recovery days after he was seriously injured during a fatal manhole rescue Monday.

Firefighter Leonardo Moreno collapsed while attempting to rescue three utility workers who died from toxic methane gas exposure Monday, reported WSVN.

Moreno lost consciousness during the rescue and was transported to the hospital, where he was placed in a medically induced coma. On Tuesday, Moreno was reported to be awake and no longer in a coma.

His brother, Yoel Moreno, posted a Snapchat video of Moreno taking his first steps since the incident Wednesday.

“I’m good, back to normal. Getting myself fixed up,” Moreno said in a second video taken by his brother. “Luckily, I might be sent home [Friday]. I’m in good graces for tomorrow.”

Just wanted to let people know that my brother Leonardo’s already mobile and trying to walk. so grateful that he’s recovering quickly! will update as more good news comes in.
