Girl, 2, drowns in pool while on vacation

Deputies attempted lifesaving efforts until EMS arrived

MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. — A 2-year-old died Tuesday afternoon after drowning in a pool while on vacation on Anna Maria Island, according to officials.

Emma Thompson was inside a home in the 200 block of Sycamore Avenue with two siblings before the girl’s mother noticed she was missing around 1 p.m., according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

Thompson was found in the pool at the home, according to the sheriff’s office. Deputies attempted life-saving efforts until EMS officials arrived, but the girl was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The family is vacationing from Apopka, according to the sheriff’s office.

The child’s death is under investigation but appears to be accidental, according to the sheriff’s office.
