PITTSBURGH — Members of Pittsburgh EMS worked to promote responsible and safe swim practices for residents this summer by giving away free youth-sized personal floatation devices.
The city’s Safe Swim campaign was created last year to raise awareness about swimming and water safety in the community, WPXI 11 News reported.
“The initiative began last summer in response to the widespread closures of community pools due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which increased the possibility of children and youth swimming in less-supervised settings, such as backyard pools or open water,” a social post from the Pittsburgh Bureau of EMS read.
The agency distributed more than 200 floaties, donated by the Allegheny Health Network, across three different locations as part of the campaign.
