NEW YORK — A 40-year-old man died after going into cardiac arrest while in police and EMS custody.
The NYPD said Denis Reyes, 40, went into cardiac arrest as police were escorting him to an ambulance, CBSNewYork reports.
Police responded Thursday to the man’s home in Fordham, a neighborhood in the Bronx, after his mother called 911, New York Daily News reports.
The man was described as emotionally disturbed. Police took him into custody inside the home.
He was taken to Saint Barnabas Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The New York City Medical Examiner’s office will determine the cause of Reyes’ death. The NYPD investigates all deaths in custody.
