COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — An intoxicated man who was handcuffed by township police at a domestic dispute attempted to flee by rolling across a road, according to court records.
Police arrested James Schutts, 31, of Colorado Springs, Colo., after he allegedly punched several people inside a house in the Beech Mountain Lakes development Sunday.
According to a criminal complaint:
Police responded to the domestic dispute on Grouse Ridge Lane and encountered Schutts walking away from the house at about 6:30 p.m. When Schutts reached the road, he got on the ground, crawled on his stomach and rolled his body across the road.
Schutts vomited several times as he rolled.
He had a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage and was handcuffed for his safety.
Several people inside the house told police Schutts became extremely intoxicated and fought everyone in the house, including his girlfriend who suffered a laceration on her nose and bruised eyes.
Schutts, who tried to flee several times while handcuffed, had to be physically restrained to prevent his movement.
Emergency medical technicians responded to assist Schutts due to his level of intoxication.
The suspect kicked and attempted to head-butt the EMTs, and police noted it took substantial force to get him in the back of an ambulance.
Schutts was arraigned Tuesday by District Judge Thomas Malloy in Luzerne County Central Court on four counts of harassment, three counts of simple assault, two counts of aggravated assault, and one count each of resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness. He was jailed at the county correctional facility for lack of $10,000 bail.
