Beaumont Emergency Medical Services knew that 911 calls would go up for a while after Hurricane Rita, but they did not think it would continue this long.
And it does not look like a decline is visible in the near future.
“I feel like, because of Rita, people may sometimes feel like they need to go and see a doctor,” said Beaumont Public Health Director Ingrid Holmes, “and so they call the emergency or 911 system to access that care,” she said.
