“We are running on empty,” said volunteer emergency medical technician Chuck Ippolito during the West Custer County Hospital District’s board of directors meeting Monday, Feb. 12.
Ippolito was referring to the lack of an adequate number of EMTs to respond to ambulance calls and the high rate of burnout among those who do respond.
