CALGARY, Canada — Quick thinking to help a neighbour who partially severed his hand with a saw is landing a Mayland Heights man a recognition award by paramedics.
Alberta Health Services Calgary EMS is recognizing Steve Leason with the honour for rushing to the aid of his elderly neighbour who deeply cut his right hand with a circular saw Friday night while removing flooring in a shed.
The hand was left barely hanging on to the wrist, but Leason grabbed his first aid kit as well as a pair of chopsticks from a drawer at home to use to bandage and splint the appendage. Adam Loria, spokesman with AHS Calgary EMS said Leason will be given a Citizen Recognition Award for his role in caring for the man before paramedics arrived and ultimately helping save his hand.
