MEDINA, Ohio — Law enforcement officials have a Medina County jail inmate back in custody after he jumped out of an ambulance Sunday while on a medical furlough.
Sheriff’s Department Sgt. David Pries says Joshua Bragg, 26, of Medina, unbuckled himself from a cot in the back of an ambulance and ran from the vehicle while at Cleveland Clinic-Medina Hospital.
Sunday night, officials were searching for Bragg in a wooded area just north of the hospital between Foote Road, Woodland Drive and Ohio 3, Pries said.
A sheriff’s dispatcher confirmed Monday morning that Bragg is back in custody, but further details were not available.
Bragg is in jail on a charge of possession of cocaine.
Pries said ambulance workers were about to transport Bragg back to the jail at 5:44 p.m. when he said, “What are you going to do if I try to escape?” The ambulance workers responded “Please don’t,” but Bragg unbuckled himself and jumped from the ambulance.
The workers went back into the hospital and called police. Pries said the ambulance workers did the right thing in not trying to physically stop Bragg.
The sheriff’s office, Medina police, Medina Township police, Montville Township police and State Highway Patrol were involved in the search Sunday night.
