CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Ohio — An ambulance was stolen and taken for a short ride Saturday while paramedics were responding to a call.
As paramedics were assisting a patient, a man stole the vehicle and crashed into a front yard fence, reported the Columbus Dispatch. Officials apprehended Christopher Kuehl, 37, after he fled the scene. He was charged with theft, disrupting public services and traffic offenses.
Columbus Fire Battalion Chief Steve Martin said ambulances are left running because many items on board require electricity, such as refrigerated drugs, radios and computers. Emergency vehicles are equipped with GPS locators that allow authorities to track them; the stolen ambulance was found a mile away.
Clinton Township Fire Chief Brian Fraley said the ambulance sustained moderate damage and is out of commission.
