HOUSTON — A Houston driver was killed and firefighters and medics were injured in an early Monday morning crash between an SUV and ambulance.
Crews had just finished loading a possible heart attack patient and a patient’s family member when an SUV slammed head on into the ambulance, according to KTRK.
The impact of the crash caused the ambulance to collide into a fire department squad unit parked behind it.
Five firefighters and medics were injured and hospitalized. Two firefighters have been released with two others expected to leave soon. One firefighter will remain in the hospital because of a broken leg.
The unidentified driver of the SUV died on the scene.
The patient and family member were also hospitalized and are stable as well.
It is unclear if there was anyone else in the crashed SUV.
Authorities are investigating whether or not alcohol was involved in the crash and say that the driver made no attempt to stop prior to the accident.
