TOWNSEND, Delaware — Townsend firefighter Andy Hall says his company’s EMTs had to wait up to 30 minutes several times in recent years for paramedics to arrive or meet them on their way to hospitals.
In 2006, a 60-year-old woman died of a heart attack after the Townsend first responders spent 23 minutes performing CPR on her before a county paramedic unit arrived, Hall said.
It’s a situation that concerns Joe English, who was treated by a paramedic on Kent Island, Md., within two minutes of suffering a heart attack 15 years ago. The 75-year-old who now lives in Middletown attributes the quick response to saving his life.
