Washington — The American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) today announced it has recognized Bryan Bledsoe, DO, FACEP, an emergency physician in the department of emergency medicine at University Medical Center of Southern Nevada, as a “Hero of Emergency Medicine.” The campaign, which is part of ACEP’s 40th anniversary, recognizes emergency physicians who have made significant contributions to emergency medicine, their communities and their patients.
“Emergency physicians are on the front lines of America’s health care system, providing the essential community service of emergency care,” says ACEP President Linda L. Lawrence, MD. “The dedication, passion and commitment Dr. Bledsoe has shown embodies the vision of ACEP’s founders and the ideals of our specialty.”
Dr. Bledsoe is also a clinical professor of emergency medicine at the University of Nevada School of Medicine. His name is widely recognized in emergency medical services. As the lead author of Brady’s best-selling paramedic textbooks, he has helped educate thousands of EMTs and paramedics for more than 20 years and has nearly 1 million books in print. He is a popular speaker at EMS conferences and a columnist for several national EMS magazines. He is often quoted in national media outlets. Dr. Bledsoe has used evidenced-based medicine to help formulate the future direction of EMS.
Dr. Bledsoe is a former EMT and paramedic and has served as a paramedic instructor and program coordinator. He was also medical director for two emergency departments and 15 EMS services throughout Dallas, Texas. He co-chairs the Certification and Evaluation Board (CEB) for the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM). He is working with the University of Nevada School of Medicine to develop an EMS Fellowship. Dr Bledsoe divides his time between Midlothian, Texas and Las Vegas, Nevada.
