Texas medic falls asleep, crashes ambulance

The driver was nearing the end of a 48-hour shift when the ambulance drifted across the highway and went off the road

JASPER, Texas — A paramedic said he fell asleep at the wheel in an ambulance rollover crash.

Driver David Warren Ogle and passenger Wade Alexander, both of Care Plus EMS, were not injured, KFDM reports.

Ogle told police that he was nearing the end of a 48-hour shift when he fell asleep around 11 p.m. The ambulance went off the south side of Highway 63, crossed both lanes, then went off the north side of the highway and rolled over.

Both medics were assessed by EMS at the scene and did not need medical care. The ambulance sustained minimal damage.
