CLEARFIELD, Utah — A 16-year-old girl was flown to the University of Utah Medical Center with serious head injuries after she fell out of the back of a pickup truck Monday afternoon, police said.

Emergency personnel were called to the single vehicle accident at 2:22 p.m. to 2300 S. 300 West, Clearfield, said Assistant Police Chief Mike Stenquist.

Stenquist said the girl was sitting on the bed rail of the truck with another girl sitting in the bed of the truck. Another 16-year-old girl was driving the truck in the residential area.

Witnesses told police the driver was “swerving back and forth and when she took the corner, the girl flew out and landed on her head,” Stenquist said.

When officers arrived the girl was unconscious, but had regained consciousness inside the ambulance while paramedics were working on her, he said.

The truck was going between 30 mph and 35 mph at the time of the accident.

There is no indication alcohol or drugs contributed to the accident, he said.

Officers are still investigating and citations are pending based on the condition of the girl, he said.

Parents of all the girls were contacted, he said.
