LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — A woman died Monday after jumping out of a moving ambulance on the way to a mental health facility.
KATV reported that Kelsey Cox was being transported when she jumped out of the ambulance and onto the highway. Cox’s mother, Jenny Waldon, said Cox suffered from autism, Tourette syndrome and OCD and had been admitted over 100 times to mental health facilities.
“She had something wrong and once in a while it came out. I begged them please don’t let her go, she is so unstable, she is going to kill herself,” Waldon said.
Waldon said she is now pushing for long-term mental health facilities.
“Society needs to open their eyes to mental sickness. Short-term is not the answer, it is not a temporary Band-Aid,” Waldon said.
Police are currently investigating the incident.
