SHERIDAN TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A patient died after an ambulance was struck by a pickup truck that failed to yield Wednesday.

Huron Daily Tribune reported that the ambulance, with Central Huron Ambulance Service, was transferring a patient to an out-of-county hospital. The ambulance did not have its lights and sirens activated.

After being struck, the ambulance was sent into a ditch and overturned before ending up in a wheat field. The patient was pronounced dead at the scene. Two EMS providers were transported to the hospital for treatment. The pickup driver was not injured.

“If the victim did die from the injuries in the accident, she would be the third victim so far this year of a failing to yield/stop sign-related accident of the two accidents that I’m thinking of off the top of my head,” Huron County Sheriff Kelly J. Hanson told the Tribune.

No charges have been filed yet; the crash is still under investigation
