Ebola fears prompt N.Y. 911 calls, stereotypes

Since August 17 callers have claimed to be infected; residents are wary of West African immigrants

BUFFALO, N.Y. — More than a month after Thomas Duncan brought Ebola to the United States, no US citizen has died from it.

Even the two nurses who contracted the virus from him have recovered.

Still, the fear of the unknown has prompted calls to 911 in Western New York. Since August at least 17 Western New Yorkers have either called 911 or the Health Department thinking they might have Ebola.
