SPANAWAY, Wash. — A man was arrested after lying to dispatchers about a carjacking so that police would help him find his car in a parking lot.

KOMO News reported that the man told a 911 dispatcher that he was carjacked at knife-point in a Wal-Mart parking lot, and gave them a fake description “so it would sound more real.”

Five Pierce County Sheriff’s Department officers rushed to the scene, only to find a carjacking had not occurred.

The man said he called because he could not find his car in the parking lot, and thought police would get there to help him quicker if he said a crime had been committed.

Police arrested the man, who said he was “really sorry” for wasting their time.
