MARCELLUS, N.Y. — Three Onondaga County sheriff’s deputies and Marcellus Ambulance personnel pulled a driver from a burning car after it crashed in Marcellus on Tuesday.
At 9:18 a.m., 911 callers reported a car had crashed, was upside down, and on fire with a person trapped inside at Bishop Hill Road and Lee Mulroy Road, according to dispatches from the Onondaga County 911 Center.
Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office deputies confirmed a person was trapped in the car and that it was “fully engulfed” in flames, according to dispatches.
Three deputies pulled the 19-year-old driver from the car, said Tom Newton, a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office.
Personnel with Marcellus Ambulance also pulled the driver from the car, according to the Marcellus Fire Department.
The driver was taken to Upstate University Hospital where he is in critical condition, Newton said.
The three deputies are being treated at Upstate University Hospital for smoke inhalation, he said. One deputy had minor burns, he said.
The accident happened when a car t-boned another car and it flipped, he said.
A Skaneateles couple in the car that was hit was taken to Upstate University Hospital, Newton said. The man was treated and released and the woman is still being evaluated.
After the crash, a car could be seen on the shoulder of the road, flipped over. Multiple fire trucks were on scene. Sheriff’s deputies were taking photographs.
Lee Mulroy, Lawrence, and Bishop Hill roads are blocked off by Onondaga County Sheriff’s deputies.
