Hawaii National Guard rescues paramedics from floodwaters as rig washes away

Two paramedics climbed onto their vehicle after becoming trapped in fast-moving floodwaters during Hurricane Lala

NAALEHU, Hawaii — Two paramedics became trapped in fast-moving floodwaters in Hawaii as Hurricane Lala passed near the islands.

Video released by the Hawaii National Guard shows the paramedics standing on top of their rig after floodwaters surrounded the vehicle on Aug. 15.

National Guard troops rescued the paramedics shortly before their ambulance was swept downstream by the floodwaters.

Hurricane Lala weakened to a tropical storm after damaging winds and heavy rain displaced about 100 homes and left more than 200,000 customers without power, KYMA reported.
