CARLISLE, Pa. — A Pennsylvania EMT rescued an elderly man from a burning car just seconds before part of the vehicle exploded.
Cumberland Goodwill EMS shared video footage of EMT Grace Snyder, who is also a volunteer firefighter, running toward the vehicle engulfed in flames, where she saw that the elderly patient was struggling to move himself to safety. The fire had already caused the car’s tires to explode prior to the EMS crew’s arrival, officials said.
“She rushed to rescue him, and only 20 seconds later a larger part of the vehicle exploded,” Cumberland Goodwill EMS officials said in a statement.
The crash and resulting fire occurred early Thursday morning close to the EMS station. Authorities did not say whether any injuries were sustained during the incident.
Snyder joined Cumberland Goodwill EMS last year after completing the emergency responder training course at the Carlisle Area School District. She is also a firefighter with the North Middleton Volunteer Fire Company and Carlisle Fire Rescue.
“We applaud Grace for her heroism,” Cumberland Goodwill EMS tweeted. "... We are thankful so many organizations have contributed to fund programs that keep responders in the community so they can be there when it matters most.”
