LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles Fire Department rescue crews pulled a man up from cold, raging river waters Wednesday afternoon, Fox11 reported.

The man was clinging to a metal wall at the side of the L.A. River as crew members in a helicopter tried to get a life vest to him but could not because of rough winds.

The helicopter crew then lowered a first responder down to the man. The crewmember got a hold of the man, and after a brief drop into the water, both of them were lifted to the helicopter. A Fox news helicopter crew captured the rescue.

The crew flew the man to a hospital, where he was treated for hypothermia, according to LAFD Public Information Officer Erik Scott.

The fire department did not release information on how the man became stranded.
