Man threatens EMTs trying to take wife to hospital

The man said he would “shoot everybody” if the EMTs took his wife to the hospital

TOOELE, Utah — A man in Utah became enraged that his wife was being transported to a hospital against his wishes and threatened to shoot the EMTs, chased the ambulance and then crashed into a police cruiser.

The Chicago Tribune reported the husband, 48-year-old Robyn Harrison, allegedly threatened to “shoot everybody” if EMTs transported his wife.

Justin Hoyal, chief deputy of the Unified Police, said Harrison got into his pickup truck and chased the ambulance down a highway and through city streets.

“We were notified that he was upset, making homicidal and suicidal threats, and that he may be armed,” Hoyal said.

Police officers decided to try to force Harrison into stopping by deliberately colliding with the rear of his truck. Harrison U-turned as officers approached and cruisers were unable to reach him.

The officers tried a second time and were successful at stopping Harrison’s truck. The police cruiser that rammed him was heavily damaged.

Harrison continued refusing to cooperate and did not surrender until police forcibly removed him from his vehicle. He was arrested under suspicion of making terroristic threats and evading police.

A search of Harrison’s truck revealed no firearm. Investigators are still trying to determine why he was so upset about his wife being transported to the hospital.
