ASTON, Pa. — Aston Ambulance Authority launched a new paramedic service serving Aston Township, Lower Chichester Township, Trainer and Marcus Hook.

The department spent days preparing crews ahead of the launch, including orientation on new equipment, the municipalities they will serve and the Delaware County 911 radio system.

The service includes 17 paramedics, an EMS chief and a medical director, Delco Today reported.

The launch follows the May closures of Crozer-Chester Medical Center and Taylor Hospital, which created gaps in emergency care and EMS coverage across Delaware County. Since then, nearby hospitals have seen increased emergency patient volumes as municipalities and healthcare nonprofits work to rebuild ambulance and EMS services once provided by Crozer.
