CARROLL COUNTY, Md. — The Carroll County Department of Fire and EMS hosted a K-9 Emergency Care and Handling course June 5 at the Carroll County Public Safety Training Center.

Staff from Airpark Animal Hospital led the training, which brought together CCDFEMS personnel, Carroll County volunteers and responders from several law enforcement, fire and emergency management agencies.

The course covered K-9 handling during emergencies, anatomy and physiology, recognizing medical emergencies and traumatic injuries, and providing emergency care to working dogs. Participants practiced bleeding control, IV access, CPR, airway management and other hands-on skills.
