VALLEY STREAM, N.Y. — A New York firefighter-EMT has died from COVID-19 complications after confirmed on-duty contact with a COVID-19 patient.

Valley Stream Firefighter-EMT Mike Field, 59, died at the hospital on Wednesday, according to the L.I. Herald. The U.S. Fire Administration reported that Field responded to a medical emergency involving a known case of COVID-19 on March 24, and has classified his death as a line-of-duty death

Field had been a member of the Valley Stream Volunteer Fire Department since 1987, and also served as an EMT with the FDNY for more than 15 years, the Valley Stream department said in a Facebook post Thursday.

While working for the FDNY, Field responded to the World Trade Center on 9/11 before and after the collapse of the twin towers.

Field is survived by his wife Stacey, and his sons Steven, Richie and Jason. All three of his sons are also Valley Stream firefighters and Steven and Richie are also EMTs at the FDNY.
