Former Ill. EMT gets probation in 2022 patient death

Peter Cadigan was sentenced to 24 months of probation, 100 hours of community service and a lifetime ban from working in healthcare after being charged in Earl Moore Jr.'s death

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — One of two former LifeStar EMTs has been sentenced in the 2022 death of Earl Moore Jr.

Peter Cadigan was sentenced to 24 months of probation and 100 hours of community service on June 23. He is barred from working in healthcare, WAND reported.

He also received a 180-day sentence at the Sangamon County Jail, but will not serve additional time because of credit for time already served. Cadigan will remain a convicted felon.

Cadigan and fellow former LifeStar ambulance worker Peggy Finley were arrested in January 2023 in connection with the death of Moore, who died after being strapped face-down on a stretcher during transport, according to prosecutors.

An autopsy determined Moore died from compressional and positional asphyxia after he was restrained face-down in a prone position on a stretcher.

“We must never, ever forego the safety of our patients because we are angry, tired, hungry, cold or irritated,” one commenter wrote
