HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Huntsville Hospital’s two free-standing emergency rooms in North Huntsville and Hampton Cove will shorten response times for the health system’s emergency rooms inside the city, members of the Planning Commission were told Tuesday night.
“That’s kind of a great gain for our community,” said Martin Sisson from Chapman Sisson architects, who presented the plans for both facilities during the Commission’s meeting at City Hall.

The Commission approved the location, character and extent for both facilities. The estimated cost is $41 million for each facility. The cost includes the first year of operating expenses.
One of the locations will be on property adjacent to the $240 million North Village Town Center development on North Memorial Parkway. The City Council approved zoning for the site earlier this year.
The other location is in Hampton Cove near Bojangles and Hampton Inn & Suites at 6079 US Highway 431 South.
Sisson said patients will be able to go to both facilities for lab draws, CT scans, MRIs, X-rays, “those kind of uses for the community, but they also serve the emergency department that is needed at that location.”
Both facilities will have a clinic.
“This is a concept that Huntsville Hospital is adding to the free-standing emergency department so on a particular day of the week, you might have cardiology services at this location, or you might have neurology, or endocrinology or some other specialty service more remote in our community that is really helping access to care.”
Both facilities will have eight treatment exam rooms and four vertical exam rooms. They will each have 100 parking spaces and helipads, which are required by law. But most patients will be transported by ambulances which will be stationed on site.
Huntsville Hospital Health System plans to break ground later this year, with expected completion late 2027 or early 2028. Site work has already begun.
The two facilities are mirror images of each other.
