PORTLAND, Ore. — Ore. firefighters and plumbers spent six hours rescuing a kitten that got trapped in a basement sewer pipe.

When firefighters arrived at the call in Portland Sunday, they could hear the kitten meowing but had trouble locating it because of the web of drainage pipes in the basement, according to OregonLive.

Crews called in a plumbing company to assist. Using a snake camera, they found the kitten 20 feet down a 4-inch pipe. Firefighters blew air into one of the pipes to coax the kitten toward the pipe’s opening.

After six hours, the 3-week kitten finally emerged unharmed.

“It was scared and hungry,” said Firefighter Scott Pearson, “but I’m sure that it was glad to be out of that dark, damp hole.”

The homeowners said they had no idea how the kitten got stuck in the pipes and don’t know it came from.
