NEW YORK — Every FDNY EMT and firefighter who gets behind the wheel of an ambulance or fire truck will go through a one-day course that focuses on driver safety, the New York Post reports.
Fire Commissioner Sal Cassano told the city council Monday that the refresher class is part of Mayor de Blasio’s Vision Zero plan to reduce accidents and fatalities.
The plan includes 11 bills and six resolutions that range from repairing damaged traffic signals to creating neighborhood “slow zones,” to jail time or a $600 fine for stunts such as “wheelies” on city streets.
