City to bill for EMS to fund its fire department

Village officials say more funding is needed to save fire department

BUCKEYE LAKE, Ohio — Buckeye Lake, which runs out of levy money to fund its fire department at the end of the year, took steps Tuesday night to collect revenue to keep the fire department operating.

The village council voted to begin billing for emergency medical services in one month and to ask residents for renewal of a 5-mill operating levy for fire and EMS services.

Councilman Barry Herron said the funds are needed. “There’s a lot of things I wish we had in the village,” Herron said. “There’s a lot of things we need. We can either make the community better or tear it apart.
