14-year-old dies after truck hits horse-drawn buggy

Two siblings, ages 12 and 15, were also in the buggy; one suffered serious injuries and the other had minor injuries

LICKING, Mo. — A 14-year-old died after the horse-drawn buggy he was driving was hit by a truck Friday evening.

Springfield News-Leader reported that Amos H. Girod, 14, was driving the buggy on a highway when a truck struck it from behind.

Girod was taken by helicopter to a hospital where he died from his injuries about three hours after the crash.

Two of his sisters were also in the buggy. Lizzie Girod, 12, sustained serious injuries and was transported by helicopter to a hospital. Sarah H. Girod, 15, had minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to a hospital.

The driver of the truck that hit the buggy, Ryan E. Reddy, 30, did not have any injuries, according to the report.
