AUGUST, Ga. — An EMT reported missing Friday around midnight was found dead on Saturday at an interstate rest stop.
The body of Shelley Dorrell, 47, was discovered inside a red Honda Civic with hazard lights on, parked at a rest area on Interstate 20, the Columbia County News-Times reports. A deputy checked the car around 10:30 p.m., and broke in through the passenger window and called for EMS when he found her unresponsive in the driver’s seat.
Dorrell’s friend reported her missing after she left her house around 8:30 p.m. Friday. She was last seen wearing her Capital City EMS uniform.
The friend said she was concerned about Dorrell based on comments she made such as “it’s not even worth it,” and she “didn’t see the point,” according to the police report. She also said Dorrell normally takes anit-deppression, anti-anxiety and sleep medication pills.
Columbia County Deputy Coroner Harriett Garrison said Dorrell had no apparent injuries and did not suspect foul play.
The cause of death is unknown and an autopsy will be performed.
