LOS ANGELES — A “vivacious” mother of four and wife of a Los Angeles Fire Department paramedic has died after a tragic accident while swimming with her kids in southern California.
Maria Davis, 43, was enjoying a “fun-filled” day with her kids at home in Riverside when an “unfortunate jump” into the family’s pool caused a fatal head injury, sister Elvia Ambriz wrote on a GoFundMe page.
“We are deeply saddened to announce the tragic death of one of our own,” LAFD Fire Station 25 said in a Facebook post.
“Maria Davis, wife of Greg Davis from Fire Station 25 A, suffered a traumatic brain injury while jumping into her pool and she was not able to recover from her injuries,” the post reads.
“After a week of fighting for her life, the family and her medical team decided it was time to let Maria go peacefully, and on Saturday, September 26th she was taken off of life support,” the statement said.
“She was everything to me, so much more than a wife,” husband Greg Davis told People.com. “I loved to do anything for her because I knew she had already done that for me... I will miss her forever.”
He called Maria his “go-to person, for everything.”
“Need to negotiate a bill with the cable company? Done. Need help with geometry homework? Done. Can you go to Palm Springs, then Mission Viejo in the same day for your own job, then take the kids to practice and make dinner because I can’t get the day off work? Also done,” he said.
“She was the most strong and determined a woman I have ever met and in our marriage, she was always the stronger of us,” he said.
Maria is survived by her husband, children Brianna, Jacob, Adam and Zoie, her father Ricardo and her siblings Jesus, Elizabeth, Elvia and Crystal, according to the GoFundMe page.
Her funeral is set for Saturday morning at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Whittier.
