HILLSBORO, Ohio — An explosion and fire Tuesday at an auto shop in southwest Ohio killed three people and injured another person, reports say.

A witness to the explosion tells WCPO Channel 9 that the scene at Jimbo’s Auto Repair was “a real war zone,” adding that he was “terrified” by what happened.

“Everyone was scrambling around the building, cars were burning up, it was pandemonium,” Clint Moore tells WCPO.

Paint Creek Joint EMS/Fire Chief David Manning tells WXIX Channel 19 that the person injured in the explosion was taken to a hospital in stable condition. Eight fire departments responded to the scene.

Manning tells WLWT Channel 5 that investigators were trying to determine what caused the explosion, which occurred at about 4 p.m.

The identities of the three victims have not been released. Hillsboro is located about 50 miles east of Cincinnati in Highland County .
