In this week’s Inside EMS Podcast, co-hosts Chris Cebollero and Kelly Grayson engage in a spirited discussion about paramedics in Charlotte, N.C. who are being incentivized to complete individual calls in under 70 minutes. Employees who complete calls faster receive higher points on their merit evaluations, which are a factor when considering raises and promotions. Medics have complained, saying the policy is creating an unsafe culture and putting patients at risk.
Cebollero and Grayson also talk about the decision by Maplewood, Minn. paramedics to stop resuscitation efforts based on a family member’s request, without a do not resuscitate order. Six responders were suspended pending an investigation.
