ZOLL Medical Displays Leading Resuscitation Products at 2006 EMS Today

Guidelines-Compliant Real CPR Help Technology On Display

CHELMSFORD, Mass. — ZOLL Medical Corporation (NASDAQ: ZOLL), a manufacturer of resuscitation devices and related software solutions, will display a range of its products at the 2006 EMS Today Exposition on March 24 and March 25 at the Baltimore Convention Center. These offerings help EMS professionals comply with and support new 2005 American Heart Association (AHA) Guidelines, including performing high-quality CPR.

“When ZOLL offered Real CPR Help™ technology in the AED Plus™ in 2002, we were the first manufacturer at the time to recognize the importance of helping rescuers with CPR performance,” said Richard A. Packer, President and Chief Executive Officer of ZOLL. “This approach was validated by the strong emphasis on CPR in the 2005 AHA Guidelines. To date, ZOLL estimates that 500,000 rescuers have access to ZOLL AEDs that can help them perform high-quality CPR. We will continue our commitment to offer such novel technologies that help lay rescuers and healthcare professionals provide high-quality CPR and improve their resuscitation efforts so that more people survive cardiac arrest.”

ZOLL offers a system of products that helps EMS professionals with a range of resuscitation issues: Defibrillation, circulation, electronic documentation, and information management. When customers use its products together, ZOLL believes they can realize improvements that help them operate more efficiently.

* ZOLL’s AED Plus and AED Pro® offer Real CPR Help through the use a special electrode, known as the CPR-D•padz™, which includes a sensor that measures the rate and depth of chest compressions. This Real CPR Help functionality offers rescuers instantaneous feedback on the rate and depth of chest compressions. In addition, the AED Pro supports the AHA recommendations of a universal compression-to-ventilation ratio of 30:2 for single rescuers. The AED Pro also includes configurable options for use by either BLS or ALS systems using airway devices.

* The ZOLL AutoPulse® Non-invasive Cardiac Support Pump—the only device of its kind—delivers the consistent, uninterrupted chest compressions that the 2005 AHA Guidelines call for. The news Guidelines note that load-distributing band CPR “may be considered for use by trained personnel as an adjunct to CPR for patients in cardiac arrest (Class llb).”* It is an automated, portable device with an easy-to-use, load-distributing LifeBand® that squeezes the entire chest, improving blood flow to the heart and brain during cardiac arrest.* Additionally, it can help free up rescuers to focus on other life-saving interventions and eliminate rescuer fatigue from the performance of CPR chest compressions. Recent study results demonstrate that the AutoPulse has contributed to improvements in long-term and short-term survival rates.*

* The rugged ZOLL E Series™ is designed to meet the specific demands and extreme conditions that professional rescuers face every day. Manual operation of the E Series for ACLS users is currently Guidelines compliant. Its EasyRead Tri-Mode Display™, for use in pitch dark or direct sunlight, provides superior readability and complete views of critical patient information from virtually any angle. Its suitcase-style design and protective roll cage, allow personnel to carry and store the device more easily. In addition, optional Bluetooth® functionality can provide data transmission capability to a variety of destinations, including transmission of 12-lead ECGs, which AHA Guidelines recommend for out-of-hospital use to help reduce time to perfusion in acute myocardial infarction.*

* RescueNet™, from ZOLL Data Systems™, is a suite of integrated EMS software applications that allows users to electronically capture, collect, and review a range of data not only for improving JCAHO compliance, but also for evaluating resuscitation performance and reviewing outcomes, which can support ongoing quality improvement.

* The ZOLL M Series® family of defibrillators has been selected as the standard of care in leading EMS and healthcare facilities around the world. ZOLL was the first company to have plug-and-play mainstream and sidestream EtCO2 monitoring options. The M Series combines the clinical superiority of ZOLL’s Rectilinear Biphasic™ waveform with portability, ease-of-use, and a vivid screen display. In addition, M Series defibrillators use ZOLL’s patented pacing technology, which has been clinically shown to offer superior capture rates, provide lower mean capture thresholds, and allow better patient tolerance to external pacing. The M Series CCT is designed specifically for critical care transport needs and is certified airworthy for military applications.
