RIVERSIDE, Calif.— Murrieta firefighter paramedics have a new device that automatically delivers the chest compressions used in CPR.
The department is one of the first in Riverside County to use the equipment, known as AutoPulse, which frees up paramedics to perform other procedures on patients in cardiac arrest without interrupting compressions.
Murrieta began using the $14,000 apparatus about a month and a half ago on six of its vehicles. The department spent about $100,000 on equipment and training, said spokesman Matt Corelli. The Palm Springs and Pechanga fire departments also have the equipment.
