Former medic saves neighbor having asthma attack

Pat Machin, who worked as a medic for 24 years, “dropped everything” and ran across the road to start CPR

Derby Telegraph

ENGLAND — A young asthma sufferer who stopped breathing for almost four minutes on Christmas Day says he owes his life to a retired paramedic neighbor who ran across the road to save him.

Tyla Cross-Reeson, 20, fell ill in front of his horrified family just after the Queen’s Speech. His 11-year-old sister, Amber, ran for help to a neighbor, desperately banging on the door of Pat Machin, 58, who lives opposite.

Pat who worked for East Midlands Ambulance Service for 24 years, said he “dropped everything” and ran across the road without even putting on his shoes. He started chest massage — and within minutes the air ambulance and paramedics had been scrambled to Tyla’s home, in Beresford Road, Sawley.
