London Ambulance Service needs hundreds of medics

LAS hiring Australian medics and increasing paramedic class sizes to meet demand of Londoners for ambulance service

LONDON — The London Ambulance Service (LAS) has more paramedic job vacancies than anywhere else in England.

A Labour Party freedom of information request reveals there are 360 positions that need filling, reported itv.

Paramedics, nearly 200, from Austrailia have been hired by LAS to fill the open positions.

Pauline Cranmer, operations manager, told itv, “We are planning for an increase in the need for paramedics, I think universities are increasing the cohorts of staff they are taking in to become paramedics, but there is between 3 to 4 years lead in time for those staff to become paramedics, so we need an interim solution to support the demand in London.”
