Thief steals equipment from Okla. fire dept. ambulance

The thief was caught on camera wearing a camouflage hoodie and beanie opening the ambulance and removing a bag

CASHION, Okla. — A thief broke into a volunteer fire station while crews were out spreading holiday cheer and made off with medical equipment.

KOCO.com reported that the thief was caught on camera, sneaking around the Cashion (Okla.) Volunteer firehouse, breaking into ambulances and looking for something to steal.

“It’s not like he just came back once. He came back a couple of times. He walked around our vehicles,” firefighter Trent Gibson said. “You can see us come as we end the tour with everybody, and you can see him walk right there.”

Surveillance footage shows a young male wearing a camouflage hoodie and beanie. The man took an EMS bag full of equipment, according to the report.

“Thousands of dollars’ worth of equipment and all that. The problem is he had no use for it. He’ll never use it,” firefighter Gibson said. “It’s a loss for us and (the) department, and the tax payers will have to resupply that.”

A neighbor alerted the department of the stolen items when he found medical supplies scattered in his backyard. The bag was recovered, but the items were missing.

“Just help us find this guy,” Gibson said. “Help us figure out who he is, so that they know not to do that anymore.”

Police said they have gotten a few tips, but need the cooperation from witnesses to make an arrest.
