Texas paramedic injured in vehicle crash

Houston Chronicle

HOUSTON — A Houston Fire Department paramedic was injured when his vehicle overturned on Texas 288 this afternoon in a traffic accident, snarling the rush-hour commute, officials said.

The overturned unit blocked traffic on the northbound frontage road of Texas 288 near Old Spanish Trail, officials said.

The unit collided with a sport utility vehicle about 4:30 p.m., said Assistant Chief Omero Longoria.

Police say the SUV driver was headed west when he stopped to let an ambulance pass through the intersection. The driver, however, did not see the HFD squad unit following the ambulance and struck it, causing it to flip upside down.
