ST. FRANCOIS COUNTY, Mo. — An ambulance transporting a patient crashed after strong winds caused the vehicle to ram against a highway median Tuesday.

The ambulance was pushed from the left lane to the median, where it struck several signs, reported the Daily Journal.

“The EMT driver stated that there was a gust of wind that took the ambulance off the road and he was unable to correct it back onto the highway due to the possibility of the ambulance turning over,” David Tetrault, St. Francois County Ambulance District administrator, said. “He continued to drive into the median where the ambulance took out a couple signs and scraped the side of the ambulance.”

The front right wheel was detached by the time the vehicle came to a stop.

No one was injured in the incident. Agency officials said their employees are trained to handle such incidents and promote patient safety.

“Normal procedures were followed with regard to an accident with the ambulance,” Tetrault said.

The ambulance was taken out of service and will undergo repairs.
