NHTSA to host free webinar on ambulance crash data used to improve safety

Officials will present detailed investigations of individual incidents to help EMS providers better understand and prevent ambulance crashes

WASHINGTON — The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration will host a free webinar designed to educate EMS providers on the causes of ambulances crashes and improve safety.

Register online for EMS FOCUS: A Collaborate Federal Webinar Series, which will take place Tuesday, April 28 at 2 p.m. EST. It’s an hour long, and attendees will be encouraged to participate in an open question and session.

“The lack of consistent reporting has made it difficult to conduct research in the past,” said Drew Dawson, Director of NHTSA’s Office of EMS. “NHTSA has worked hard to improve efforts to collect data that can be used to better protect EMS personnel and patients.”

The webinar includes 20 years of ambulance crash data and the results of detailed investigations of individual incidents. Noah Smith and Mirinda Gormley from the NHTSA Office of EMS will share how the agency is collaborating with a variety of partners to use the data to improve the safety of providers, patients and the public. Representatives from the NHTSA Special Crash Investigation (SCI) program will explain how the department works with the Office of EMS to determine whether an investigation is warranted following ambulance crashes that involve serious injuries or fatalities.

Every other month, the EMS FOCUS webinar series provides a venue to discuss critical initiatives, issues, and challenges for EMS stakeholders nationwide.
