OCALA, Fla. — Dennis Black of Weirsdale is alive thanks to Marion County firefighters. He was rescued from a burning mobile home on August 30. On Tuesday, Black and his wife Melissa met and personal thanked the people who changed their lives forever.

The reunion ceremony happened before the Marion County Board of County Commissioners. MCFR also received a thank you letter from Black’s 16-year-old son, Allen, who lives in Georgia. “Without ya’ll, I’m sure I would have been going to (my dad’s) funeral,” the letter dated September 11 stated. “I don’t know if all you guys know how much it means to me and the rest of my family.”

At 12:34 a.m. on August 30, MCFR firefighters responded to the Black’s Weirsdale home within seven minutes. Flames shot from a window and crawled up the wall, and thick, black smoke filled the home. Outside, Melissa frantically told firefighters that her husband was still inside.
